Bryan High School senior Edgar Castrellon has been a Crockett Rocket, a Long Lobo, a Davila Texan and a Bryan Viking, and next year, he will be a freshman at Yale University.
The second of three children, Castrellon will be the first in his family to go to college. He said his parents did not finish high school, but they always pushed him to try anything he set his mind to and to give it his best attempt.
“They raised my standards of what I wanted to do with my life,” he said.
Castrellon has his sights set on a career in law. He plans to take a pre-law track, studying either mechanical engineering or double majoring in political science and Spanish. After graduating from college, he intends to continue to law school to become a patent lawyer.
When asked where he sees himself in 10 years, he said, he plans to be out of law school and working as an associate at a big patent law firm in a big city, ideally on the West Coast.
Over the summer, Castrellon interned at the law offices of Rodgers, Miller, Rodriguez & Fusco, P.C. in Bryan. He has also volunteered in the Bryan Municipal Court’s Teen Court program where high school students who are interested in a career in law are trained and serve as attorneys and jurors for real juvenile court proceedings.
While at Bryan High, Castrellon has been involved in UIL Mathematics, Speech and Debate and serves as president of the Viking Mental Health Association, a mental health club established to combat the effects of COVID-19 on high school students. He is also enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program at Bryan High School and helps with SAT tutoring.
Congratulations, Edgar!
Children First. Always.
